Make a donation to The Cat House and TRC will give you an adorable ANGEL Christmas ornament to say "Thanks!" for helping us help The Cat House.

(read more about The Cat House below)

TRC purchased approximately 300 of these Gibson Greetings Angel Ornaments to give donors for this fundraiser. You'll receive 1 for each $5.00 donation in December. They are approximately 6 1/2" tall and just adorable! They retail for $3.99, so you'll not only be doing something nice for some cats and kittens that really need your help, but you'll get a really cute little angel ornament for your Christmas tree as our way of saying "Thanks!". They also make great stocking stuffers and are adorable when tied to a gift box bow.

The Cat House is a private shelter project.

The Cat House is an absolutely no-kill shelter in Ohio, that takes in abandoned and abused cats (and the occasional dog), made possible through one family's determination, and donations from animal lovers who want to help The Cat House continue its good works.

Originally, the family who runs the shelter took in the occasional stray cat, gave it medical care and nursed it back to health, as well as gave it enough love to overcome any abuse or abandonment issues it had so it would make a good companion pet, and then found the cats homes. If a cat was not able to be adopted out because of behavioral or emotional issues or disability, the family kept the cat.

Word got around, and people started bringing stray cats they found to The Cat House. Currently, there are 36 cats and 1 dog in residence (34 rescues plus the family's 3 pets.

Cats are provided shelter, food, medical care, including neutering and spaying, and a safe, loving environment until they can find a forever home with a new family.

What makes The Cat House different from other shelters:

1. The shelter is a home environment. No cages. The cats literally live with the family. The theory is that these animals have been pets, and they will be pets to their adopted family, so they should be treated as pets at all times. Because of the abuse and abandonment they have experienced, they need to learn to trust and socialize with their human companions, as well as other pets, so they will be ready for their adoptive families.

2. Many no-kill shelters are only "no-kill" if the cat (or dog) do not have behavioral problems or are not too old, or are not disabled or do not require life long medical care. The Cat House accepts all cats, and have never had to have any cat put down. Every cat they take in that cannot be adopted will still live out their natural life in comfort and with love, regardless of the obstacles they face.

What started out as a part-time project born of love for cats and dogs has turned into a full-time mission.

In the first month a cat is at The Cat House, the average cost is at least $300.00 for the spay/neuter, medications, worming, de-fleaing, and any other medical care they need. The average cat spends 3-4 months at The Cat House before finding a forever home, but some will never leave.

In the past 12 months, 83 cats have been taken in by The Cat House. Most have found forever families!

The need for no-kill shelters is so great because the number of abused and abandoned cats is so high. In fact, most shelters are full, without room to take anymore cats.

The Cat House, through its original program, its new fostering program, and other initiatives, hopes to make it so no cat is ever turned away, and so that no cat is euthanized because they can't be adopted.

In the next 12 months, The Cat House hopes to take in twice as many abandoned and abused cats as they did last year but they need your help to continue their good work and expand their programs!

The Cat House has a mandatory spay and neuter program. This helps assure that the cats from The Cat House will not contribute to the overpopulation of cats, and that there will be less unwanted kittens abused and abandoned. If kittens are adopted from The Cat House that are too young to be spayed or neutered, the adoptive family will receive a voucher (paid for by The Cat House) so they can take the kitten in when he/she is old enough for the procedure. This is a mandatory requirement of the adoption, and all adoptive families must prove the kitten has been spayed or neutered for the adoption to become final.

They charge a $95.00 adoption fee - this helps cover some of the cats' food and day-to-day care while they are in residence (but not their medical care or spay/neuter) and they charge this fee to prevent the cats from becoming victims of the lab testing market (did you know that labs pay up to $100.00 per cat, and most dogs and cats in labs are found by suppliers in the newspapers "free to good home" ads?) By charging this fee, the cats do not become victims, and the new adoptive families pay less than if they adopted a cat that hasn't been spayed or neutered that they have to pay themselves to spay or neuter.

The Cat House estimates the cost for the next 12 months to be over $24,000.00 if they take in at least 80 cats ($300.00 + average per cat that is not reimbursed by the adoption fee). The cost will be double that if they raise enough to double the number of cats that they care for.

The Cat House is starting a fostering program so that more cats can receive the love and care they need and find permanent adoptive homes. The foster families will take in cats when The Cat House is full, and the cats will live in the homes of the foster families, and live as their pet until a permanent adoptive family is found! The Cat House will cover the costs of the cats' food and medical care during their stay at the foster family's house.

In order to add to the great life the cats sheltered at The Cat House lead, The Cat House is planning a protected, enclosed outdoor play area for their resident cats, so they can go outside for a few hours each day, and play, run and climb.

To help them reach all their goals for the next year, The Cat House is hosting a variety of fund raisers to help cover some of the costs of running The Cat House, funding the foster program (so they can rescue more cats), and the creation of the new outdoor play area.

The TRC Authors are hosting one of these fundraisers, and YOU can help continue the awesome work of The Cat House with a donation.

You can donate any amount.
